The Rector of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice received the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia

The Rector of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc. received the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Seiranian on the grounds of the Rectorate in 5th October 2015. The vice-rector for international relations and mobility doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD. and an MP of the National Council of the Slovak Republic JUDr. Otto Brixi also joined the discussion. The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the possibilities and conditions of an institutional cooperation with the Yerevan State University.

After the official meeting the Ambassador participated in a session with the students of our university that was organized by the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Arts of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and by the civic association Res Publica. His Excellence the Armenian Ambassador presented interesting information about the actual diplomatic relations between Slovakia and Armenia, while he emphasized the excellent level of political dialogue between the two states. From the perspective of cultural exchange he suggested a deeper cooperation between individual cities and regions. Another important topic of the presentation was the genocide in Armenia, during which 1.5 million Armenians were killed by the Ottomans between 1915 and 1918.  At the end of the presentation there was space for the questions from the audience, within which the actual relationship between Armenia and Turkey had was discussed, and the reasons why some states do not  recognize the Armenian genocide.
