Students, teachers and staff of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as the general public could participate in activity called "Move it to the stairs" on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. It took place between 8.00 a.m. and 15.00 p.m. in the main building of the Dean's office at Trieda SNP 1 within European Week of Movement.
The idea behind the event was to promote the use of one of the simplest and most accessible physical activities, walking up the stairs. Action with the motto "use the stairs, not the elevator" was organized by the Association of Medical Students of Košice city in cooperation with the Institute of Physical Education and Sport UPJŠ in Košice and its purpose was to encourage as many people to miss lifts and go within the 10-storey building walk up the stairs.
In addition to presenting the movement as part of a healthy lifestyle and a significant element in the prevention of many current lifestyle diseases, the event was also focus on the prevention of certain diseases. Students who were on each floor made for participants various examinations or measurements and detected deviations from the values of a healthy person, respectively, participants were able to complete several physical exercises. In addition, medical students informed them about some preventive topics such as nutrition and the impact of smoking on human health, the importance of respecting drinking regime and the effect of stress on the body.
