The aim of the research work at the 1st Department of Psychiatry has been intended mainly on the research in the fields of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, pharmacological resistent depression, anxiety and personality disorders.

The department employees contribute to studying the neurobiological aspects of nonpharmacological treatment, effectivenes of pharmacological treatment in the relation to genetic conditionality of medicaments metabolism. Furthermore, they have been studying the endophenotype approaches to psychotic-like phenomena and drug abuses.

Scientific research activities of the department include projects focusing on creating its own laboratories – electrophysiological and bioelectromagnetical. They have been belonging to the projects from the structural funds (ITMS 26220120067, Centre of Excellence for Electromagnetic Fields in Medicine, CEEPM). 

Jozef Dragašek, MD, PhD was a head researcher of the CEEPM activity  that has been focused on the creating the electromagnetical fields laboratory applied in psychiatry.
