21st International Conference on Subterranean Biology
„21st International Conference on Subterranean Biology“ will be held in 2 - 7 September 2012 by the Institute of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Science, P. J. Šafárik University in Košice. Conferences focused on cave biology are organised under the auspices of „International Society of Subterranean Biology - ISSB“ in 2-year intervals in various countries around the world with usually 150-170 participants. General Assembly of ISSB approved our candidature in September 2010 in Postojna, Slovenia.
The event will be held under the auspices of:
JUDr. Zdenko Trebuľa - President of the Kosice Self-governing Region
MUDr. Richard Raši, PhD. - Mayor of Košice
Prof. MUDr. Ladislav Mirossay, DrSc. – Rector of P.J. Šafárik University
Central topic of the conference is “Subterranean realm - fragile ecosystems and unique biodiversity: towards new concepts”.
Conference program will be separated into following sections:
- Subterranean Biodiversity
- Adaptation, Development, Physiology and Behaviour
- Phylogeography, Phylogeny and Evolution
- Microbiology and Geomicrobiology and Sedimentology
- Population and Community Ecology of Subterranean Organisms
- Subterranean Ecosystems
- Conservation of Subterranean Life
