On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Slovak Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as well as of the forthcoming European Parliament elections, a seminar: “Together in the EU: a Slovak – Dutch Perspective” was held at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice on Thursday March 14, 2019.

The main guests and speakers were Jaap de Zwaan, a professor of European law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Duco Hellema, the former director of the Clingendael Dutch Institute and a professor of history at the University of Utrecht, Vladimír Bilčík, the EU Program Director for SFPA and a candidate for a Member of the European Parliament; and Elena Kohútiková, the former Vice-Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia. The seminar and discussion was led by doc. Mgr. Radomír Jakab, PhD. from the Faculty of Law of the UPJŠ in Košice.

The aim of the initiative was to raise awareness of the European Union, its roles and its impact on the everyday life of an ordinary citizen of a Member State. In addition to the bilateral relations between the Slovak Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the emphasis was also placed on the position of both countries in the EU, the consequences of membership in the Union, and on the possibilities of deepening the cooperation.
