Awarding the honorary degree “Doctor honoris causa”

On 4th April 2008 the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice awarded Mr Jean-Paul Costa, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, the honorary degree “Doctor honoris causa”

On proposal of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Law, on the basis of Article 5 of the Statute of the University, the Scientific Board of the University decided to award Mr President of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, Mr Jean-Paul Costa from the field of law, the honorary degree “Doctor honoris causa”.

The Master of Ceremony of the Graduation Board PhDr. J. Ferjenčík, PhD. welcomed His Magnificence Prof. MUDr. L. Mirossay, DrSc., the Honorabilis Promoter Prof. RNDr. J.Černák PhD., the Vice-Rectors of the University, the Deans and the Vice-Deans of the Faculties of our University, the Chairman of the Academic Senate, the former Rectors of the University, the Rectors and Vice-Rectors of the Slovak public universities in the premises of the Great Auditorium at the Rectorate of the University. The invitation to the festive event was also accepted by some prominent guests such as JUDr. J. Šikuta, the judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, JUDr. I. Macejková, the president of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic and Prof. JUDr. M. Čič, DrSc., the chief of the President’s office, the members of Academic Senate of our University, the members of the Board of Trustees and other esteemed guests.

The festive atmosphere of the event was enhanced by the performance of the duo PRO MUSICA. Its members (Nataša Kötelesová – flute and Jozef Haluza – guitar) presented Festive trifles of romantic masters.
