MediPark – the university’s science park was presented and opened for the public in the framework of an opening ceremony

    The university’s science park (USP) was presented and opened for the public in the framework of an opening ceremony as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty Medicine. On Friday, September 28, 2018, the ceremony of ribbon cutting was attended by the Rector of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc., the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., the former rector of the university prof. MUDr. Ladislav Mirossay, DrSc., and the Director of the MediPark MVDr. Ján Rosocha, CSc.

    The academic institutions, which are involved in the realization of the USP MediPark project are the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Science), the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, the Biomedical Research Center SAS (previously the Institute of Neurobiology), and the Technical University of Košice. The partners invested EUR 32 million in order to establish this science park. The construction of the MediPark USP was carried out in two phases in order to ensure a top national centre for research, development and transfer of knowledge into practice in medicine.

    The MediPark represents more than 6000 square meters of laboratory space, and includes a data center, a pharmacogenetics laboratory, it enables the individualization of medical treatments, it also contains a research laboratory for metabolism and atherosclerosis, a regenerative medicine laboratory and a laboratory for stem cell research, and space for a scientific incubator. The development of commercial scientific and research activities is also supported by the park.
