Opening of the “Aristotle” Building of the Faculty of Arts – a Part of the Ceremonial Opening of the Academic Year 2011/2012 at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

On the 19 September 2011 Pavol Jozef Šafárik University staff and students met in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine for the opening ceremony of the academic year  2011/2012. The Rector of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, prof. MUDr. Ladislav Mirossay, DrSc. expressed his belief that the new academic year can provide space for the creation of human spiritual values. He wished all the students, and the first-year students in particular, great success in their studies and fulfilment of their expectations.

In the academic year 2010/2011 there were 8, 377 students studying at the five faculties of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, among them 1, 261 students in a part-time study programmes and the total of 561 doctoral (PhD) students.

The opening of the new premises of the Faculty of Arts on Moyzesova Str. 9 – the “Aristotle” building, in the presence of faculty and university staff, students and guests, represented a special part of the ceremony. The “ribbon cutting” symbolically opened the door of education for lecturers and students – philosophers and philologists. The “Aristotle” building will house  60 staff of six departments and 15 new auditoriums will create excellent conditions for lectures and seminars for more than 450 students. Practical classes will be performed in a film and television studio, a phonetic laboratory and a multimedia room. Reconstruction of the building was financed by the sources from the project Creating the OPEN DOOR University by Implementation of the Modern ICT and Reconstruction of the Faculty of Arts Building in the UPJŠ Premises. The total amount of the project was € 5, 004 295.32, out of which the costs of building reconstruction was € 2, 488 704.99, and the contractor was SCHOTT, Ltd., Bardejov.
