The students and the employees of the Institute of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science in cooperation with the creative technological studio MATSUKO introduced penguins in an extended reality at the Botanical Garden of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The visitor looks at the canvas, where he can see his own image and the penguin models that move around. The sensor locates the position of the people and the penguins adapt their behaviour based on that. They hit the visitor’s foot, hide, walk around and slide on their stomach. The students also have opportunities to improve the layout. They can add further interesting penguin interactions or other objects.

The Antarctica 2017 photo exhibition of prof. RNDr. Martin Bačkor, DrSc. from the Department of the Botany of the Institute of Biology and Ecology brings to the Botanical Garden the memories of his expedition, which he realized at the turn of 2016 and 2017. The expedition took place under the auspices of the Masaryk University (MU) in Brno at the polar station of Johann Gregor Mendel on the James Ross Island, which is a dedicated workplace of the MU in Brno. The Charles University had two representatives among the members of the exhibition, while Mehmet Gökhan Halici, a Turkish botanist from the Erciyes Üniversitesi Kayseri in Turkey was also a member of the expedition team. Within the framework of the scientific program of the expedition the research was carried out in the field of plant ecophysiology, botany, microbiology, climatology, glaciology, geomorphology, hydrology and geology.
