The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košie ranked 1047th in the world, 434th in Europe, and it took the 2nd position in the comparison of the evaluated Slovak universities in the URAP ranking – University Ranking by Academic Performance 2017/2018. “I find the results of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice pleasing, since only three Slovak universities – Comenius University in Bratislava, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Slovak Technical University in Bratislava – got into the first half of the ranking. The URAP ranking evaluates approximately 10% of the universities in the world, making it one of the most extensive ranking systems for the quality assessment of universities” said the rector of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc.

The URAP ranking summarizes the assessment of universities according to 6 criteria – the number of published articles in 2016, the number of citations, the number of all publications, the impact of the articles, the impact of the citations, and international scientific cooperation. All indicators, except for the first mentioned, were monitored for the period 2012-2016. “The universities are ranked in the URAP ranking from objective data based on the available information from reliable bibliometric sources. This is the difference between URAP ratings and some other rankings of universities that are based on, e.g. expert assessments, where the experts determine, which universities they consider to be of high quality (e.g. QS World University Rankings), or rankings such as Multirank, RankPro, where the information for the ranking companies is provided by the rated universities” – said the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Mobility, doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD. In the annual comparison the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice has improved its position by more than 100 places, and did not score worse than one year ago in any indicators. The most significant increase was recorded in the citation indicator.
