On the pilot Slovak round of the Falling Labs competition for young researchers and innovators, which was organised on September 29, 2017 as an event of the Researchers’ Night 2017 our university achieved a significant success. From the 56 applicants from 10 countries 18 young researchers had the possibility to present their breakthrough ideas and results and to acquire a direct ticket to the prestigious world final in Berlin in November 2017. The significance of the competition is underlined by the fact that the management of the event was taken over by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Investments and Informatization Peter Pellegrini.
Three representatives of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University presented their solutions in a challenging three-minute presentation in a fierce competition. The winner of the competition was Stanislav Hrivňák – a third-year PhD student of Biophysics with his solution of X-ray propagators for the coherent microtomography of small organisms.
“I had two irons in the fire – both of them had a high probability to win. We could see many good ideas in the presentations of the best Slovak students. I was very pleased with Stano’s success in this excellent competition. The jury consisted of the top scientists of Slovakia, who appreciated Stano’s contribution to improve the display of the Bragg’s magnifier and his level of presentation in a very short time as well. Stano’s results significantly help our work in the field of X-ray imaging, and I’m convinced that they will be recognized in the Berlin finals as well”, said doc. Uličný, the happy supervisor.
