X. International Congress of Plastic Surgery and XI. Demjén’s day

Almost 60 lectures were lectured at the jubilee X. International Congress of Plastic Surgery and XI. Demjén’s day, which took place from 2nd to 4th June 2016 in Košice. The event was organized by the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Medical Faculty UPJŠ and UNLP Košice and the Centre of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in cooperation with the Slovak Society of Plastic Surgery. The congress, which is the top event in this field of medicine, was attended by about 200 guests, among whom were doctors and nurses working in the field of plastic and aesthetic surgery. Demjén’s day, closely related to Congress of Plastic Surgery, commemorates  the founder of Slovak plastic surgery, Professor Stephen Demjén (* 1912 - † 2001).

"The first lecture and discussion was devoted to the direction of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery in Slovakia and the Czech Republic on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday during the scientific program a total of 42 medical and 15 nursing lectures devoted to tumors, interdisciplinary approach in plastic surgery and new trends in aesthetic surgery, the main themes of Congress, were given. The lecturers were mostly Slovak and Czech experts in this field, but also interesting guests as a plastic surgeon, Pier Paolo Rovatti from Italy," said MUDr. Teodor Kluka, PhD., The President of the Congress and Head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ, who organized the jubilee 10th annual International Congress of Plastic Surgery in Slovakia.

The Congress was under auspice of the Dean of Medical Faculty, UPJŠ- prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., who participated in the opening ceremony. The prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., who works as a cardiologist, said that plastic and aesthetic surgery and preventive cardiology don’t have a lot in common at first sight, with a smile on his face. Yet there is something that connects both of these professions - health and beauty. "Well, while you care about our outer beauty, my job is to take care of the vitality and beauty of our arteries of the heart..." he said.
