Three students of Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice returned home with the gold medals from the European University Games in Zagreb, Croatia in July 2016. The students of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ - Zuzana Schwartzová and Viktória Pillárová and the student of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, UPJŠ Marigona Mehmeti have won the 1st place in karate in senior category among 15 teams.
Zuzana, Viktória and Marigona are proud not only of their victory, but also of the fact that they contributed to bringing Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice and its Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Physical Education and Sport, at which they study, into sight. Their win obviously pleases the representatives of these institutions. The Rector of UPJŠ prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, PhD., the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD. and director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport - Mgr. Alena Buková, PhD. also congratulated the winners.
“The success of our students is great news for me. It was not so long ago that the three names were mentioned in connection with the Winter Universiade in 2016, where they won all three medals in karate as individuals. I believe that we will hear about these girls, of which two study at the Faculty of Medicine and I am very pleased that our students can combinate demanding study and sport," said Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., who considers this nice victory also as a success of the Faculty and the University.
