Medical students of UPJŠ organized the 2nd year of a successful event Pink October, where they attracted and informed more than four hundred women about the prevention of female cancerous diseases on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Aupark shopping center, Kosice. The educational events of Club of Public Health, Association of Medical Students of Kosice took place from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. and was participated by 17 medical students of 1st to 5th grade of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ.)
"We addressed the passing women of different age - older ladies, but also girls, mothers with children, or couples. We were pleased by the keen interest of women for the prevention of cervical cancer and breast cancer and we are pleased that we were able to significantly exceed the last year's number of respondents. While in the first year of the Pink October we talked to 240 women this year there were already 404. Very emotional and important for us were the talks with several ladies who have fought with cancer and thanks to the treatment they overcame this insidious disease. They were willing to share their experience with us and supported us in promoting prevention that helps to save lives through early detection of disease. We were also supported by about thirty-year man, whose mother just started her fight with breast cancer, and who also emphasizes the importance of prevention, because the early diagnosis of his mother’s cancer revealed an insidious lump. We have seen that people want to receive information and they know to talk about sensitive health issues," says a student of the 5th year of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ - Edina Imreczeová, which operates in the Club of the Public Health, Association of Medical Students of Kosice.
Students have informed women about the importance of regular gynecological examinations, the importance of mammograms and a correct technique of breast self-examination, which is a simple and very effective method for early diagnosis of a breast cancer. Women could try self-examination technique and felt a lump hidden in silicone breast . They could pin its symbol - pink ribbon, as a sign of support for educational events , and take a picture with the maquette of ribbon, which celebrated the motto ,,LET’S TALK ABOUT IT TOGETHER." And they could take an interesting pictures in pink costumes as an added bonus.
