The 1st Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine, Medical Faculty UPJŠ and UNLP Kosice organized the second year of the International Airway unique workshop for anesthesiologists and intensivists aimed to the teaching and practicing difficult intubationon on Saturday, November 12, 2016. There, 68 doctors from all over Slovakia and abroad have been trained, including a number of trainee foreign lecturers under the auspices of the European Airway Management Society (EAMS).
Two lecturers were among the speakers - professors from Istanbul - Ayten Saracoglu and Tolga Kemal Saracoglu and anesthetists from the UK. The organizers have prepared a total of seven lectures devoted to the topic and 6 stations for a practical training with models and different special tools on which the Slovak and foreign anesthesiologists trained the various procedures of intubation using educational models and tools to clear the airways under the guidance of instructors. In practice, they will use this training on anesthetized patients who have breathing difficulties and require artificial ventilation.
The correct intubation has a vital importance , because if the anesthetized patient has not properly secured airways, he can suffocate, according to the words of the head of the 1st Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Medicine, MF UPJŠ and UNLP - doc. MUDr. Jozef Firment, PhD. The Anesthesiologist must therefore routinely operate with not only the conventional intubation techniques, but also respond to an alternative solution of problem. For example by using tracheotomy, which can be lifesaving for a suffocating patient.
