Medical students of UPJŠ organized the second preventive event called the School of Health at the shopping centre Aupark in Košice on Saturday, April 22, 2017. It was a preventive event for the general public, in which 31 medical students participated. The members of the Association of Medical Students in Košice approached the visitors of the shopping center and informed them about the topics related to the prevention and healthy lifestyle from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The medical students "lectured" at four spots called Health in Numbers, Teddy Bear Hospital, First Aid and Antitobacco and the motto of their event was the slogan "Come to Find Out What You Can Improve".
The 230 people underwent the measure of blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol test, the proportion of fat and muscle and mineral counts in the body, 101 children visited the Teddy Bear Hospital aimed at reducing the fear of a doctor in small children, the spot First Aid was visited by the 110 people and about 60 smokers were willing to discuss smoking with medical students.
The interesting event was also appreciated by prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD not only as a Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, but also as a cardiologist. "The benefits of healthy lifestyle, regular sport, and the importance of preventive screenings should be reminded from different levels because they really contribute to the prolonging and improving the quality of life. I am very glad that our students are aware of this and come up with the interesting events that are attractive to the general public, while at the same time they are acquiring communication skills that are valuable for their future profession," he said.
