The pedagogues and Slovak and foreign students had the opportunity to attend lectures of the prominent clinical parasitologist and publicist RNDr. Michal Giboda, Assoc. prof who lectured about "Parasites and Global Health" at the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ on October 11-12, 2017. The topic of lectures was based on the idea that today, we can not clearly divide parasites to the tropics parasites and parasites of the temperate zone because we live in a time when people are in active movement and pathogens migrate with them. That is why we can also count with the appearance of exotic parasites in our latitudes and know how to correctly diagnose and treat them.
The expert has established the Department of Tropical Parasitology of the Parasitology Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in České Budějovice where he examined over 5,000 foreign students and workers from 60 countries of the world with whom various exotic parasites came. He was offered to go to Cambodia for a year stay, where at first he worked in the hospital and then in the Center of Malaria in Phnom Penh in the 1980s. His next activity was as Assistant Professor and later Associated Professor and Head of Department at the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He also completed research stays in Cuba, South Yemen, Laos, Cambodia and Canada. RNDr. Michal Giboda, Assoc. prof. is the author of 87 scientific publications, of which are 70 in foreign languages and he won a number of domestic and foreign awards.
