The students of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ provided information about the HIV virus on the occasion of the World AIDS Day at all faculties of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and at the Technical University of Košice on Monday, December 3, 2018.
"The aim of the World AIDS Day, organized by the Association of Medical Students in Košice, was to raise awareness and to inform about HIV transmission and options of prevention. We also focused on combating discrimination and stigmatization of HIV-positive people, which certainly helps the education of society, this year. The dangerous virus is transmitted only by body fluids and not e.g. by handshake, as many people mistakenly think," says Adam Nedoroščík, student of the 4th year at the FM UPJŠ and Chairman of the Association of Medical Students in Košice.
The information was provided by the students at six information spots in the morning. The Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ presented a HIV themed film called "HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE", followed by a discussion with the prominent infectologist prof. Pavol Jarčuška, M.D., PhD. and Slavomíra Húšťová from the PRIDEKOŠICE civic association in the afternoon. The event finished with a candlelight march as an expression of solidarity with HIV-positive people and those who had already succumbed the AIDS disease.
