Seventy-two elementary school pupils visited the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ

    Seventy-two participants of the project University without Border, UPJŠ visited our faculty on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Elementary school pupils and children from orphanages were among the participants. They were welcomed by the Vice-Dean for Scientific and Research Activities, prof. Peter Jarčuška, M.D., PhD. and coordinator of the event RNDr. Jaroslava Oravcová. At the beginning, the children listened about how difficult it is to study at the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ and also what activities they can expect during the day.
    They learned to provide first aid within the activity “Save Yourself If You Can (Know)” at the Department of Nursing Care, thanks to the interesting topic “What do parasites enjoy?” they got acquainted with human parasites at the Department of Medical and Clinical Microbiology. They learned within the “Creative Centrifugation School” about proteins and worked with a centrifuge at the Department of Medical and Clinical Biophysics. They learned why some of the fluids in the human body are colored at the Department of Medical and Clinical Biochemistry.
    Ivan Majerčák, M.D.  from the Center for the Treatment of Obesity had an interesting lecture and explained to children how to eat and not to gain weight. The staff of the 1st Department of Stomatology FM UPJŠ and UNLP and the Department of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery FM UPJŠ and Akadémia Košice, n.o. took a look at the childrens‘ teeth. At the end of the day at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJŠ, the participants of the University without Borders visited the Medipark – Center for Pre-clinical and Clinical Research.
