The Ambassador of Japan visited the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ

    The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to the Slovak Republic, Makoto Nakagawa visited the P.  J. Šafárik University in Košice and its Faculty of Medicine on Monday, June 21, 2021. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to the Slovak Republic, Makoto Nakagawa was received on behalf of the Dean prof. Daniel Pella, M.D., PhD. by the Vice-Dean for Scientific and Research Activities prof. Peter Jarčuška, M.D., PhD. The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Dean for Grants, Development and International Relations prof. Monika Halánová, D.V.M., PhD., and the Vice-Dean for Study Programme General Medicine in English Language assoc. prof. Pavol Kristian, M.D., PhD. 

    The aim of his Excellency Makota Nakagawa’s visit was to get to know the Faculty where 14 Japanese students are currently studying the study programme General Medicine in English Language and to outline the possibilities of cooperation between UPJŠ and its Faculty of Medicine with Japan. 
    “The Ambassador was very interested in the conditions of study at our Faculty and was pleased to take the opportunity to visit the premises of the Center of Simulator and Virtual Medicine. The Center is equipped with high technology, mostly made in Japan, and our students will start using it in the next academic year. His Excellency Makoto Nakagawa personally tested the functions of several simulators and the equipment of the simulated operating room and greatly appreciated the future contribution of the Center of Simulator and Virtual Medicine for the study of medicine and other medical specialties at our Faculty,” says prof. Peter Jarčuška, M.D., PhD. 
    Makoto Nakagawa also met with two Japanese students. Only two students of the study programme General Medicine Chisato Imazeki and her colleague Tomohiro Uwatoko are currently in Slovakia due to distance learning in connection with the new coronavirus pandemic, while the other students are staying in their home country and studying online. Both students were honored with the opportunity to meet with the Ambassador of Japan to the Slovak Republic and very praised the conditions of study at the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ. 
    Before visiting the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ, the Ambassador of Japan also visited the Rectorate of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and was received by the Rector prof.
