International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry IUPAC has announced, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its establishment and the International Day of the Periodic Table, the establishment of the Periodic Table of Younger Chemists. Each of the chosen elements from the periodic table will be represented by one of 118 exceptional young chemists from around the world, who were and will continue to be nominated for this award. The resulting periodic table is supposed to emphasize the career diversity, creativity and the dedication of young chemists, who represent IUPAC‘s mission and core values. Approximately 8 elements will be revealed each month from the beginning of July 2018 until July 2019.
The following 4 elements: phosphorus, cobalt, platinum and nickel, were revealed on the 21st of August 2018 at the American Chemical Society Meeting in Boston, USA. Assoc. prof. RNDr. Andrea Straková Fedorková, PhD. from the Institute of Chemistry, Department of Physical Chemistry, is included among the 4 successful young chemists, representing the element platinum.
