The contest highlights and makes visible the activity of top-class teachers of primary and secondary schools, who create innovative and effective education methods. CEEV Živica and the Komensky Institute organized for the first time, according to the pattern of the international award Global Teacher Prize, in the year 2018 the contest of Global Teacher Prize Slovakia to find the Teacher of Slovakia under the auspices of the president of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska.
In Slovakia there is also an interest in increasing the prestige of the teacher occupation and in motivating the current and future teachers to exercise their profession.
From the 100 registered teachers the board consisting of experts let 10 to the finalists´ round and according to the criteria of the international award Global Teacher Prize they chose the first Teacher of Slovakia.
Organizers announced the winner´s name in an untraditional way – they sent it to space, to an orbit, on the first Slovak satellite called skCube and received its signals in a form of Morse codes.
In March 2019 Zuzana Tkáčová will travel to the world finals of the Global Teacher Prize to Dubai.
Zuzana Tkáčová works from September 2016 in part-time at the ICS FS P.J. Šafárik University as an expert on the national project called IT Academy and also teaches Computer science at the Gymnázium of St. Edita Stein in Košice. Within the project she creates research-oriented methods of teaching Computer science focused on artificial intelligence, physical computing, and programming in Pythone. She is a lector in educating teachers in the area of teaching Computer science and for advanced learners in techniques of programming and the application of Computer science in natural sciences. She creates and repairs competing tasks in the online programming competition called PALMA junior. Beyond the project she participates with initiative in organizing and lecturing meetings of the Club of Computer science teachers, workshops for students, University without borders.
With working at our faculty, she contributes to the improvement in preparing future teachers of Computer science and as well as to the innovative education of working teachers.
