The project was initiated in the form of a joint memorandum by representatives of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice, Technical University in Ko\u0161ice, Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, University of \u017dilina in \u017dilina,\u00a0 Automotive Industry Association and Slovak Electric Vehicle Association.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are launching the preparation of the National Battery Centre project, which has the ambition to support the most promising components of the value chain of the battery industry.\u00a0 We want to be among the best players within the European area,\u201d said on December 7, 2020 President of SAS, prof. RNDr. Pavol \u0160ajgal\u00edk, DrSc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The competencies of Slovak entities should cover three main areas. Within the first work package, the priority activities are activities in the field of raw materials, materials and battery cells. These should contribute to the development of advanced electrodes, electrolytes and cells, in order to significantly improve the properties of batteries. The second work package, the battery system and their management, is focused on the development of innovative battery management systems or battery sensors, as well as advanced techniques for monitoring the condition of batteries and supercapacitors during their load, in order to optimize their operating mode. The topic of the last of the work packages is recycling and further usability of batteries. The National Battery Centre therefore aims not only for joint research and development, but also for the application of knowledge into real practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPriority topics will be research and development of new materials for electrodes of lithium batteries also based on sulphur, solid electrolytes as well as new aluminium-air batteries, batteries based on sodium and ferrates and increasing performance and extending battery life,\u201d explained Rector of the Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice, prof.
