{"id":42586,"date":"2017-10-13T10:46:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T10:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.upjs.sk\/aktuality\/upjs-the-new-2017-2018-academic-year\/"},"modified":"2017-10-13T10:46:56","modified_gmt":"2017-10-13T10:46:56","slug":"upjs-the-new-2017-2018-academic-year","status":"publish","type":"cpt_aktuality","link":"https:\/\/www.upjs.sk\/en\/actualities\/upjs-the-new-2017-2018-academic-year\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University has entered the new 2017\/2018 academic year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Monday, <strong>September 18, 2017<\/strong> the ceremonial opening of the academic year 2017\/2018 took place in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine of the Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice with more than 7 000 enrolled students, from which 2\u00a0350 first-year students will start their studies on BA or MA level, or in a joint 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> degree study program. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main priority of the university is to provide high-level education so that the students\u2019 study is based on the high-quality scientific research of the professionally-educated teachers, who transfer the knowledge gained from their own scientific research into the teaching process. The employees of the university and its departments do their best to ensure that students meet state-of-the-art experimental instruments and equipment, the latest information and communication technologies, as well as innovative training methods that can be used in practice during their educational process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the new academic year the main priorities in the field of education are: to support the internationalization of studies in order to intensify the communication of students and teachers with foreign institutions, to support innovative student projects and scientific research objectives and to ensure a consistent implementation of the internal system of the quality of education based on \u201cESG 2015\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is important to point out that the preparation of the accreditation documents of the study program Pharmacy has been finalised. It will be a joint study program with the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Ko\u0161ice with joint 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> degree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The opening ceremony of the new academic year included the introduction of the new professors, doctors of science, associate professors and the new holders of the IIa scientific qualification level. Additionally, the Rector of the university awarded the Rector&#8217;s Award for a significant contribution of teachers and scientific staff of the university to the field of science and research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Rector\u2019s Award for PhD students for a\u00a0significant contribution to science and research was awarded for the first time on the ceremonial opening as well as the Rector\u2019s Award for a\u00a0major media action for individuals and collectives for positively propagating the university in the field of media.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A significant change in the structure of the university is caused by <strong>the establishment of the Technology and Innovation Park (TIP-UPJ\u0160)<\/strong>, which will function as a\u00a0research centre of the university and will be a\u00a0specialised workplace in the direct management of the Rector, which performs interdisciplinary research in selected fields of science, or cross-scientific research in several fields.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c<strong><em>Our ambition is to be a\u00a0research university which combines quality basic and applied research. That is why we have come to the most serious decision to complete the <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2018moving up triangle\u2019, which consists of three basic pillars: education, science and transfer of science into practice by establishing the TIP-UPJ\u0160. The TIP-UPJ\u0160 will be a centre of scientific and technological research at the university in the fields of biomedicine, biotechnologies, computer science, information technologies and progressive materials. I am convinced that it is good news for the city and for the Ko\u0161ice region that the universities of Ko\u0161ice and the institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences have never worked so closely before for the common strategic objective to introduce Ko\u0161ice as a Science City, the basis of which could be a significant investment project in the Ko\u0161ice technological park on our campus at Trieda SNP and Medick\u00e1 street, which would provide space for innovation and transfer in connection with the IT Valley members in the attractive Nano-Bio-Info field\u201d <\/em><\/strong><strong>\u2013 <\/strong>said the Rector.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Rector of the university also greeted the first-year students and wished them success in their studies at one of the best universities in Slovakia, which offers not only high-level education but also opportunities for meaningful leisure activities in the field of culture, sports and art.
