The celebrations of the Ko\u0161ice City Day traditionally culminate with the presentation of prestigious awards of the City of Ko\u0161ice. This year, individuals and teams from Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice were awarded as well. The Award of the City of Ko\u0161ice, the Award and the Plaque of the Mayor of Ko\u0161ice are awarded to individuals and teams – exceptional personalities who, through their life, work, and talent, have achieved significant success and contributed to the development and improvement of the city. For the second time in its history, the special PRO URBE award was presented. It was awarded to Bernard Bober, Roman Catholic Archbishop, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Ko\u0161ice, and President of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia, for his significant contribution to building social peace, preserving cultural values and traditions, and his long-term support of charitable activities in the city and the region. The awards were presented by the city management headed by the Mayor Jaroslav Pola\u010dek on 7 May 2025 at the Historical Town Hall to two teams and three individuals working at UPJ\u0160 in Ko\u0161ice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Award of the City of Ko\u0161ice was awarded to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the team of the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJ\u0160 and UNLP Ko\u0161ice<\/strong>, for their significant contribution to the provision of comprehensive curative and preventive care in internal medicine, with an emphasis on gastroenterology and hepatology, to patients from all over Eastern Slovakia;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the team of the Department of Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics at the Faculty of Science of UPJ\u0160 in Ko\u0161ice<\/strong>, on the occasion of the department\u2019s 60th anniversary and for long-term significant contribution to scientific research;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

doc. MUDr. Adri\u00e1n Koles\u00e1r, PhD., MPH<\/strong>, Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJ\u0160 in Ko\u0161ice and V\u00daSCH and a leading Slovak cardiac surgeon, for his outstanding contribution in the field of cardiology;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

prof. MUDr. Ivica Laz\u00farov\u00e1, DrSc., FRCP<\/strong>, Head of the 1st Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJ\u0160 in Ko\u0161ice and UNLP Ko\u0161ice, for her significant and professional contribution in the field of endocrinology and internal medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Award of the Mayor of Ko\u0161ice was awarded to prof. MUDr. Matej \u0160korv\u00e1nek, PhD. from the Department of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJ\u0160 and UNLP Ko\u0161ice, for his outstanding contribution in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other rare movement disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
