Orend\u00e1\u010d<\/strong>, investigates magnetic structures with geometrical frustration and the aspects of the magnetocaloric effect. In frustrated systems, due to a vast number of states corresponding to almost the same energy, very unusual properties of the ground and excited states appear. One of the most interesting frustrated magnetic systems is the so-called spin ice, in which the orientation of the magnetic moments corresponds to the positions of hydrogen atoms in conventional ice [<em>M. Orend\u00e1\u010d et al., Phys. Rev. B 75 (2007) 104425, M. Orend\u00e1\u010d et al., Phys. Rev. B 93 (2016<\/em>) <em>024410<\/em>]. Lately, he has devoted his attention to the design and investigation of properties of monoatomic magnetic systems consisting of molecular magnets or nanoparticles deposited on a suitable substrate.
