The UPJ\u0160 and LP UH Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery provides health care and teaching of medical students, specialized training and scientific research in the fields of Laryngology, Speech Therapy, Rhinology, Otology and Otoneurology.<\/p>\n

The main Department treatment plan is Middle Ear Surgery, Neurosurgery, Facial Nerve Surgery, Surgery of the Lateral Skull Base, and auditory rehabilitation. At present, patients from all over Slovakia concentrate in the Department with problems in these areas. We operate lateral skull base tumors, especially the vestibular schwannoma. Minimal invasive microsurgical techniques are used as complemented by endoscopy, allowing in some cases to remove the vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma or neuroma n.VIII – more information at: http:\/\/schwannom.webnode.sk<\/a>) with the preservation of hearing. These techniques are also employed in microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm, neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve, other compression syndromes of the ponto-cerebellar angle, and with debilitating dizziness. The Department also provides treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis using endoscopic techniques, treatment of tumors of the sinuses and larynx by using the organ preserving procedure, whenever the extent of the disease permits this. The Department carries out diagnostics and treatment of patients with dizziness conditions. The in-patient part of the Department is situated on the 9th floor for inpatient monoblock at Trieda SNP No.1 and consists of 35 beds.
