The Department of Anatomy has an incremental role in teaching and training of future doctors and dentists at the Faculty of Medicine of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The Department is involved in several award-winning educational projects to enhance the quality of our academic staff and teaching methods. With an increasing number of collaborations and partnerships with other universities of which some are abroad, the Department belongs one of the best at the Faculty.

The scientific and research activities of the department are focused on the study of selected antioxidant enzymes as possible predictive and prognostic biomarkers of carcinogenesis in cancer patients. We also analyze the occurrence of selected antioxidant enzymes in oocytes, preimplantation embryos and reproductive organs and their possible influence on infertility in female rats. As a morphology department, we study the occurrence of anatomical variations in humans, and these findings are analyzed and published in the form of case studies and review articles. Another area of research is bioimpedance analysis as a potential diagnostic and prognostic method in cancer patients.
