Based on the data from this analysis, a general list of known locations and a map of the distribution of the studied species in Ukraine were compiled. According to the results of the analysis of the current distribution of G. acaulis in Ukraine, the species occurs in Svydovets, Chornohora, Marmarosh, Gorgany Mountains ranges, and is also known in the Eastern Beskydy and Low Polonyny, Pokutsko-Bukovynsky Mountains ranges, and the Chyvchino-Hrynyavski Mountain range. Currently, 83 locations of G. acaulis have been registered in the studied region. The largest number of locations (29 geographic sites) is in Svydovets. Slightly fewer locations are concentrated in the Chornohora Mountain range (27 geographic sites) and in the Gorgany (14 geographic sites). There are five locations in the Eastern Beskydy and Low Polonyny, four locations in the Marmarosh, three in the Pokutsko-Bukovynsky Mountain range, and one location each in the Chyvchino-Hrynyavski Mountain range. The data obtained significantly support the existing information on the general range and distribution of G. acaulis in Ukraine. The present study assessed 26 fenugreek landraces collected from various regions of Iran to investigate various traits and their contributions to biomass performance. Correlation analysis revealed strong positive associations among vegetative traits, particularly between plant height, stem height, and shoot biomass, while leaf dimensions and leaf area traits showed coordinated growth patterns. Chlorophyll exhibited correlation with carotenoids, while root and reproductive traits showed weak correlations with vegetative traits. Path coefficient analyses were performed to quantify direct and indirect coefficients on dry shoot biomass and other response variables while addressing multicollinearity. Fresh shoot biomass, pod length, and number of nodes were identified as major direct contributors to dry shoot biomass, collectively explaining 67% of the variation. Additional key predictors included plant height, middle leaf height, leaves per plant, lateral leaf area, and biochemical traits such as anthocyanins, carotenoids, phenol, and chlorophyll. Excessive root biomass was found to negatively impact above-ground yield. Bootstrap analysis confirmed the robustness of path coefficients, indicating minimal bias and reliable trait contributions. Breeders should focus on plant height, stem height, leaf area, internode length, and branching to boost biomass, while prioritizing pod number, pod length, and node number to enhance seed yield. Also, some physiological traits like chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins, and phenols can serve as useful indirect selection markers. Finally, genotypes with large root systems should be avoided to ensure resources are efficiently allocated to above-ground yield.
Keywords: bootstrapping, dry shoot biomass, genetic variability, leaf traits.
Full text

Kunev G. & Petrova G. In this context, the rediscovery and documentation of previously unreported herbarium collections represent a valuable opportunity to expand and refine our understanding of historical floristic knowledge, as illustrated by the recovery of an unpublished herbarium collection attributed to Adriano Fiori, former professor at the Forestry Institute of Vallombrosa, preserved at the Herbarium of the Department of Agriculture (PORUN; University of Naples Federico II). The collection consists of approximately 200 specimens, whose provenance and arrival at PORUN had not previously been documented. Most samples were collected in Tuscany, with Vallombrosa representing the most frequently sampled locality (72%). The collection is characterized by a strong predominance of woody phanerophytes, while chamaephytes are only marginally represented. This taxonomic and biological structure closely reflects Fiori’s scientific interests and research activity during the early twentieth century. Overall, this study highlights the scientific and historical significance of rediscovered herbarium materials and emphasizes the importance of their documentation for enhancing our understanding of Italy’s botanical heritage and the development of floristic research.
Keywords: Adriano Fiori, botanical heritage, herbarium specimens, taxonomic documentation, unknown collection.
Full text

Kunt M., Sedláčková K., Vacek O. & Hendrych J. The biggest obstacle to growing plants is the freezing winter. Due to the risk of damage to the irrigation systems, it is necessary to turn it off in the winter, and the plants must be able to survive this period without watering. This is a significant limiting factor, especially for the assortment of evergreen plants, although they are very popular for their aesthetic effect when grown in green walls. During the research described, mainly xerophilous plants were tested for planting in vertical gardens. Due to the system used by the company Němec s.r.o., which operates on a system of self-watering flowerpots, the growing environment was not quite suitable for a larger part of the plants tested. In the second phase of the research based on previous experience, plants of mesophytic to hygrophilous nature were used that showed much greater potential for use in the above-mentioned system. Observations in the first phase of the research took place on the CULS (Czech University of Life Sciences) campus in Prague, from November 2017 to May 2020. Testing of another assortment of plant species is currently underway at the same location, with promising results from July 2024. The result of this testing is a suitable assortment of plants that can be recommended for use in vertical gardens with a substrate system in the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic.
Keywords: vertical gardens, green walls, structure gardens, vertical garden assortment, substrate system, irrigation.
Full text

Hrivnák R.
