From 27 to 29 May 2026<\/strong>, the 12th Symposium of the Slovak Biophysical Society<\/strong> took place in Bojnice, bringing together members of the Slovak biophysics community. The symposium was organised by the team from the Institute of Medical Biophysics, Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University Bratislava, and was attended by 84 participants from Slovak and international research institutions. The programme included, among other activities, 5 plenary lectures, 23 short presentations and 42 poster presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Researchers involved in the APBC project<\/strong> also presented their results at the symposium. In total, they contributed nine presentations supported by the project, originating from research teams at Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice, the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Ko\u0161ice, and the Institute of Neuroimmunology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, several of them in collaboration with other Slovak and international partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A significant part of the presented research focused on proteins, their structure, interactions and aggregation<\/strong>, reflecting key research areas of the APBC project. Several contributions addressed proteins associated with neurodegenerative diseases \u2013 amyloid \u03b2, tau protein and \u03b1-synuclein \u2013 and different approaches to modulating their aggregation. Other studies used molecular modelling and simulations to better understand protein structures and interactions. The presented research also included a study of the SARS-CoV-2 neutralising antibody AX677 and the way it recognises its target protein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other contributions were directed towards biomedical and biotechnological applications<\/strong>, including the investigation of biologically active compounds and potential therapeutics, as well as the use of photobiomodulation in a cellular model of Parkinson\u2019s disease.
