Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics – Graduate characteristic

1minút, 0sekúnd

Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics brings fundamental knowledge about basic structure and interaction of the matter, studies a matter structure at the distances less than the atomic nucleus size ≈ 10-15 m, possible new characteristic of the matter, and phase transitions. Part of the study programme is also cosmology and astrophysics, which study ineractions between cosmic elementary particles with electromagnetic field and matter environment. Graduates of this specialization are knowledgeable and experienced in quantum physics and quantum field theory. Two mentioned disciplines applications play increasing role in other natural sciences and technologies (nuclear energy sources, nuclear medicine, environment dosimetry, and widespread use of radiation and radioisotopes). Because of the disciplines requirements, there is a great emphasis in the programme on the experimental methods and result analysis, including information technology technique (PC farms, GRID), and modern computer program languages. Graduates can specialize in several fields such as quantum field theory and chromodynamic, elementary particle physics, astrophysics and applied nuclear physics. Within applied nuclear physics, graduates can specialize in clinical dosimetry, nuclear medicine applications, and diagnostic and radioisotope methods. There are excellent opportunities in education and work for students at Institute of Experimental Physics SAV and at the Department of Nuclear Medicine of L. Pasteur Teaching Hospital.
