The Nursery School of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice opens its doors to children on 1 September 2024. The history of the university dates back to the second half of the 17th century, but the history of the nursery school is just beginning to be written.
Our aim is to create conditions for children for creative humanistic education and training with an emphasis on the development of key competencies for the 21st century while respecting the mental and physical aspects of each child.
When the name of our university is mentioned, everyone thinks of a strong, stable and respected institution with a long history and a solid place in the 21st century. That is why we wanted to keep the initials for the name of the nursery school, from which UPeJeŠko was born.
UPeJeŠko is a one-class nursery school with a maximum number of 20 children, who develop and learn in premises designed and equipped for these purposes.
Objectives and mission of the nursery school:
- To use alternative and activating methods, elements and didactic aids in the educational process aimed at the development of literacy, communication skills, mathematical, informational and logical thinking.
- To take into account the different needs, interests of the children, their requirements, talents and abilities in different areas and their language abilities.
- To provide the children with contact with foreign languages.
- To support the development of the children through experiential learning, exploration, discovery, touch.
- To use the stimulating environment of the university in cooperation with individual faculties as an opportunity for the cognitive enrichment of the children.
- To form the children’s habits in relation to a healthy lifestyle, to build their awareness about the need to protect their own health, the health of others and the environment in general.
- By actively involving the parents in school activities, to transfer the ideas of the nursery school to families.
The objectives of the school are in accordance with the objectives of the State Educational Programme for Pre-Primary Education in Nursery Schools and are adapted to the focus and conditions of the nursery school. The nursery school provides the support for achieving optimal cognitive, sensorimotor and social and emotional level as a basis for school education in primary school.
The Nursery School of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and the School Canteen at Moyzesova 9 have been included in the network of schools and school facilities by decision of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.
