Computational Enzyme Design Course Opened New Research Opportunities

From June 2 to 5, 2025, our colleague Dr. Martin Menkyna (CIB TIP-UPJŠ in Košice) participated in the 6th Hands-on Computational Enzyme Design course in Brno. The event, organized by the Loschmidt Laboratories at Masaryk University in collaboration with Enantis, focused on modern tools in protein engineering. During four intensive days, participants gained hands-on experience with advanced software for predicting enzyme stability, solubility, and enantioselectivity. Theoretical lectures were effectively complemented by interactive exercises conducted directly within web-based tools.

A major benefit of the course was the opportunity to consult computational methodologies directly with their authors and developers. Participants also learned how to correctly interpret results from platforms such as AlphaFold, FireProt, and RFdiffusion. In addition, the program provided space for analysing proteins related to the participants’ own research. Thanks to this feedback, ongoing computations could be optimized and new research protocols established.

Participation in the Brno course thus opened new possibilities for more efficient problem-solving in enzyme design, while also fostering valuable connections within the international scientific community.
