The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice has prepared a research cooperation agreement in cooperation with Bioinova, a.s. (Prague), the subject of which will be a series of pilot experiments with the enzyme chitinase. The research may bring new possibilities of use in human medicine as well as in agriculture and animal production.
The UPJŠ will be responsible for the professional part of the project by the Technology and Innovation Park (TIP-UPJŠ). The pilot experiments will be led by Prof. RNDr. Erik Sedlák, DrSc. with his team from the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences.
The subject of the cooperation is the implementation of a series of pilot experiments focused on the enzyme chitinase and verification of its potential for further practical use. The application possibilities are wide – from human medicine to the agricultural sector, including fish, poultry and livestock farming.
One of the major ambitions of the project is to contribute to the search for solutions that could help reduce the use of antibiotics in animal production in the future. This topic is important not only from the perspective of the efficiency and sustainability of production, but also in the broader context of finding alternative approaches to the use of antibiotics.
The contract research agreement was created in cooperation with the company Bioinova, a.s. from Prague, which was represented in the negotiations by Peter Bauer. The contract is ready for signature after the successful completion of the negotiations.
The cooperation represents a concrete example of the transfer of technologies and knowledge from the academic environment to practice. In this case, the university’s scientific capacities and the expertise of the UPJŠ research teams are interconnected with the specific requirement of the application partner in order to verify the potential of scientific knowledge in real conditions.
The first results of the pilot experiments will be published after their evaluation.
