Protein Biotechnology Workshop

1minút, 9sekúnd

As part of the Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium (APBC) project, a two-day professional workshop dedicated to modern protein biotechnology was held on August 31 and September 1, 2026 at the TIP UPJŠ Interdisciplinary Bioscience Center in Košice. The event was intended for students, the scientific community and other interested parties, and during the first two days, participants of both Summer Schools of Protein Engineering also participated in it.

The program consisted of six professional lectures that presented work with proteins in its full scope – from learning about their molecular mechanisms and structure through the design of expression systems, production, purification and quality control to proteomic analysis, the development of diagnostic antigens and the use of biomarkers in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.

Daniel Rozbeský, Miroslav Marcin, Diana Hopková, Rostislav Škrabana, Jozef Hanes and Zdenko Levarski shared their knowledge and experience with the participants. Lecturers from Slovak and Czech scientific institutions presented not only the theoretical principles of individual methods, but also concrete examples of their use in biomedical research and diagnostics.

The workshop created a space for the exchange of the latest scientific knowledge, professional discussion and networking of researchers from different institutions and fields. At the same time, it enabled students and beginning researchers to gain a broader idea of the possibilities of modern protein biotechnology and the path that leads from basic protein research to their practical use.
