Advanced imaging in the early diagnosis of oesophageal tumors

Oesophageal tumors are among the most aggressive oncological diseases with high mortality, while the success of treatment depends significantly on early diagnosis. The CAMO3E (Advanced Imaging in Early Diagnosis of Esophageal Tumors) project is focused on the development and verification of innovative multimodal imaging approaches enabling earlier and more accurate identification of tumor changes.
The project uses a combination of multiple optical and biophotonic imaging technologies that provide complementary information about the morphology, structure, and biological properties of tumor tissue. By integrating multiple imaging modalities, complex datasets with high spatial and temporal resolution are created, which will then be analyzed using artificial intelligence and machine learning tools.
The main scientific objective of the project is the creation and verification of a preclinical in vivo model of oesophagus tumor to verify the possibilities of hybrid imaging and the development of methodologies enabling early detection of pathological changes. The research also focuses on the identification of new imaging biomarkers that can contribute to the improvement of diagnostic procedures and the promotion of personalized medicine.
The project will significantly expand the research infrastructure of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in the field of advanced biomedical imaging and create conditions for the development of international cooperation in the field of research, development and innovation. The results of the project will contribute to the transfer of modern optical diagnostic technologies into biomedical research and create prerequisites for their future clinical use.
