From 7 to 11 September 2026, the international INSTRUCT Course on Calorimetric and Spectroscopic Characterization of Biomolecules was held at CEITEC Masaryk University in Brno. Our colleague Mária Tomková, PhD, from the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Technology and Innovation Park, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (CIB TIP-UPJŠ), participated in the course.
The course focused on modern calorimetric and spectroscopic methods used to characterise biomolecules. Expert lectures provided the theoretical background needed to study the structure, stability and interactions of biomolecules. The theoretical sessions were complemented by hands-on work with advanced instruments. Participants learned about individual experimental procedures and improved their data analysis skills.
The combination of theory and practical training also helped the participants better understand the potential and limitations of the individual analytical methods. The programme included expert discussions and an exchange of experience with lecturers and participants from various research institutions.
The knowledge and practical experience gained during the course will support the further development of protein research at CIB TIP-UPJŠ. Participation in the event also helped to broaden professional expertise, establish new scientific contacts and strengthen international collaboration in biomolecular research.
