Center for Interdisciplinary Life Sciences at the European Science Night 2025 in Košice

1minút, 59sekúnd

On September 26, 2025, the Center for Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (CIB) of the Technology and Innovation Park in Košice (TIP-UPJŠ) participated in the European Science Night festival, which took place in the Optima Shopping Center in Košice.

The theme of the 2025 edition was CHAOS with the subtitle “Searching for Order in an Unpredictable World”. The main aim of the festival was to show that even where chance and ambiguity seem to reign, science reveals the underlying order and principles.

The festival in Košice was part of the nationwide program, when the Night of Science takes place in parallel in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica, Žilina and Poprad.

Our exhibition: “Hidden order in the chaos of molecules”

As part of the OC Optima festival, a stand called “Hidden order in the chaos of molecules” was prepared by CIB, TIP-UPJŠ, through which visitors were introduced to the fascinating world of biomolecules, which is invisible to the naked eye.

Our scientific researchers showed how biomolecules react to various stimuli, we presented luminous molecules in an attractive form and offered a clear explanation that in the molecular world there are laws and structures hidden behind the apparent chaos.

The stand was prepared and presented by members of our team:

  • RNDr. Michal Nemergut, PhD.
  • Mgr. Ľuboš Ambro, PhD.
  • Mgr. Mária Tomková, PhD.
  • RNDr. Veronika Huntošová, PhD.
  • MVDr. Ivana Pilipčincová, PhD.
  • PhD študentky: RNDr. Kristína Felčíková, Mgr. Alexandra Poliaková, Mgr. Terézia Gulyásová

In the presentation, colleagues also presented scientific activities within the projects that are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic:

  • APBC (09‑I02‑03‑V01‑00021)
  • ExCasProt (09‑I01‑03‑V04‑00041)
  • R2 projekty (09I03‑03‑V04‑00116 a 09I03‑03‑V04‑00112)
  • R3 projekt (09I03‑03‑V04‑00007)

The festival is organized by the Slovak Organization for Research and Development Activities (SOVVA), in cooperation with CVTI SR, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and other partners.

The event has the ambition to popularize research and innovation in society, awaken critical thinking, reveal scientific knowledge and point out its importance in everyday life.

In addition to our stand, visitors could view various other exhibits — from the microworld, materials, logistics, ecology, cybersecurity and other areas — and attend lectures that pointed out how chaos turns into order in nature and technology.

We believe that our presentation contributed to the revival of scientific interest among the general public and we thank all visitors for their interest and inspiring discussions.
