Meeting at CIB TIP UPJŠ: new perspectives for cooperation with MagGenome Technologies

On July 30, 2025, a professional meeting was held at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (CIB), TIP UPJŠ, with an esteemed guest from India – Prof. Ramchand, CEO of MagGenome Technologies Pvt. Ltd., based in Chennai, India. The company specializes in the application of nanotechnology in biomedicine, particularly in the isolation of DNA, RNA, and plasmids using magnetic nanoparticles.

The meeting was initiated by Assoc. Prof. Pavol Kopčanský, DrSc., from the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, a long-standing scientific partner of Prof. Ramchand. He was accompanied by RNDr. Milan Timko, DrSc.

During the visit, Prof. Ramchand met with:

  • Prof. Erik Sedlák, DrSc., Head of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (CIB),
  • RNDr. Andrej Miroššay, PhD., Director of the Technology and Innovation Park of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (TIP UPJŠ),
  • and other research staff from CIB.

Prof. Ramchand presented the core research and development areas of MagGenome, focusing on their unique technologies based on magnetic nanoparticles designed for efficient nucleic acid extraction and their potential applications in clinical, research, and industrial settings.

The discussion focused on the intersections between the research conducted at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, the project portfolio of TIP UPJŠ, and the strategic interests of MagGenome. Special attention was given to international collaboration opportunities, the potential involvement of the company in the APBC consortium, and avenues for commercialization of joint research outcomes.

The meeting was held in a very friendly and constructive atmosphere. It was agreed that both sides would exchange further information regarding the technical specifications of MagGenome’s products and explore possibilities for their application in UPJŠ research laboratories.
