The Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium (APBC) is a unique scientific and innovation project, the aim of which is to strengthen cooperation between academia and the biotechnology industry, support the emergence of innovative and cutting-edge solutions in the field of protein biotechnology and contribute to the development of the regional economy. The project is designed to have a significant regional, national and international impact – it supports economic growth, the development of the start-up ecosystem and a competitive high-tech sector, but above all it aims to prevent or minimize the outflow of talented scientists from Slovakia and to support the return of experts from abroad back to Slovakia.

APBC connects cutting-edge science and the biotechnology industry. The project also aims to strengthen regional and international cooperation and create attractive conditions for young scientists in Slovakia. The project also plans to bring new diagnostic and therapeutic solutions.

Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) is the only university in Slovakia to succeed in the largest call of the Recovery Plan in the field of research and innovation, co-financed by the European Union. Of the two highly ranked projects selected for implementation at our university, one will be carried out at the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (CIB) of the UPJŠ Technology and Innovation Park, in close cooperation with selected teams from the Institute of Physical Sciences and the Institute of Chemical Sciences at the UPJŠ Faculty of Science.

Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) has achieved extraordinary success in the largest call from the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan in the field of research and innovation. Out of a total of 38 submitted project applications, only 6 projects were selected. UPJŠ is the only Slovak university to succeed with two projects, for which financial resources of more than 28 million euros will be provided.
