The Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (CIB) operating within the Technology and Innovation Park of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is a scientific-research and technological workplace focused on oriented and interdisciplinary research at the interface of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science. Its main goal is to link basic research with applied outputs and to contribute to the solution of current challenges in the field of biomedicine, environment and industrial technologies.

The dominant activity of the Centre is the implementation of excellent basic research in the fields of protein engineering, nanomedicine, bioenergetics and environmental sciences. These research directions are followed by the development of innovative technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases, monitoring and environmental protection, as well as the application of scientific knowledge in practice and its commercialization.

The CIB also creates a strong bridge between academia and industry by supporting technology transfer, spin-off companies and cooperation with the business sector. An important part of its mission is also the transfer of cutting-edge knowledge into higher education and the training of a new generation of scientists in interdisciplinary fields.
