As part of the APBC project, the Department of Biophysics of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Slovak Academy of Sciences hosted a professional workshop organized in collaboration with Nanosurf, focused on the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM) in biophysical research. Our colleagues gained practical knowledge about AFM bioapplications with a focus on the study of proteins in liquid media and imaging of cell models.
The workshop followed the installation of a new system, in which Nanosurf upgraded our DriveAFM in combination with a Zeiss inverted fluorescence microscope. This correlative platform enables imaging of biological samples in liquid media and connects fluorescence microscopy with AFM imaging at nanometer resolution. Currently, the system allows the study of fixed cells and opens up possibilities for imaging and characterization of living cells, including monitoring their structure and mechanical properties.
