From June 29 to July 2, 2026, the international training school Applied Enzymology 2026, organized as part of the project The Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium (APBC), took place on the campus of Wageningen University in the Netherlands. The project is supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic aimed at strengthening cooperation between companies, academia and research and development organizations.
The event was part of the activities of the project The Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium: A Model for Fostering Economic Growth and Mitigating Brain Drain in Eastern Slovakia (APBC), the main investigator of which is Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The project is implemented under the leadership of Prof. RNDr. Erik Sedlák, DrSc., Head of the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences at the Technology and Innovation Park UPJŠ (TIP-UPJŠ).

The event was attended by 37 young researchers from leading European universities, research institutions and industry. The professional program was provided by seven lecturers from the University of Groningen, the University of Amsterdam and Wageningen University.

Over the course of four days, participants attended 14 professional lectures, a poster session, a practical workshop focused on protein structure analysis and an excursion to a biotechnology company, where they learned about the industrial use of enzyme technologies.
The training school contributed to the development of professional knowledge of young scientists, the promotion of international cooperation and the connection of academic research with applied practice, thereby also supporting the goals of the APBC project.
