Human Rights and Freedoms under Pressure from Algorithms: International and National AI Challenges
November 28, 2025, Pavol Jozef Šafarik University in Košice, Faculty of Law
The rapid development of artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping everyday decision making, the economy, and the functioning of public institutions, and it is opening up new challenges for the protection of human rights and freedoms. The aim of the conference is to provide a space for an interdisciplinary dialogue between lawyers, technology experts and policy makers on how to prevent discrimination, safeguard privacy, freedom of expression and assembly, and strengthen democratic processes in the digital age.
The keynote speaker of the conference will be Prof. Dr. Vasilka Sancin, PhD, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
The organisers welcome papers that:
- analyse specific cases of artificial intelligence misuse with a negative impact on the exercise of human rights and freedoms,
- evaluate legal frameworks related to the protection of human rights and freedoms in connection with the use of artificial intelligence at the international, European and national levels,
- propose solutions in the field of legal regulation and public policies aimed at the protection of human rights and freedoms in the digital space.
The conference will take place in a hybrid format (on site and via MS Teams). The working languages are Slovak, Czech and English. Please submit an abstract together with your registration. The conference fee is EUR 50. The proceedings will be published as a peer reviewed volume. Final papers must be submitted by 15 December 2025. The proceedings will be published in the first quarter of 2026.
