Department of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law – Education

The Department of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law has over the years achieved a strong position at the Faculty and among other departments of its kind at Law faculties in Slovakia and abroad. The academic staff provide academic courses in the bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral level study programmes, although, courses are predominantly targeted at students in the bachelor’s degree study programmes. Apart from compulsory courses, students are offered a wide variety of compulsory elective and elective courses tailor-made to deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. Constitutional Law section encompasses compulsory courses of Constitutional Law of the Slovak Republic I and Constitutional Law of the Slovak Republic II. Students in the master’s degree study programme may opt for the elective state examination in the field of Constitutional Law of the Slovak Republic. Administrative law courses are divided into three semesters; compulsory courses Administrative law I, Administrative law II and Administrative law III. Bachelor level study programme ends with the state examination in the discipline of Administrative Law.

The Department also provides compulsory elective courses and elective courses in the bachelor’s degree study programme which include Fundamentals of Constitutional Theory, Theory and Practice of Legislation, Public Procurement Law, Law of Municipalities and Self-Governing Regions, Public Administration in Administrative Justice, Environmental Law, Construction Law Clinic, Information Law, Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. In the second (master’s degree) level study programme, the courses comprise Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Law and European Union Funds and Maritime Law.

Doctoral study at the Department of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law was provided in the discipline of Administrative Law, later also in related fields of Theory and History of State and Law, and since 2021 also in the field of Criminal Law. The Department conducts several law courses in the doctoral study programme, such as: Theory and Practice of Legislation, Development of Pedagogical skills, Grant and project Prepa- ration, Current issues and developmental tendencies in Constitutional Law, Human rights and their protection in national law, Forms of Government, Administrative sanctions, Public administration in the Administrative judiciary I, Public administration in the Administrative judiciary II, Fundamentals of Constitutional Theory, Theory and Practice of Law-Making, Administrative judiciary.
