The Department of Civil Law was formed immediately after the establishment of the Faculty of Law in 1973 under the name of the Department of Civil Law and Family Law. In 1983 the Department was renamed as the Department of Civil Law and International Law owing to its fusion with the Department of International Law. After a period of time, in 1999 the International Law division was transformed into a separate department, and the Civil Law division has been given the official designation – the Department of Civil Law used to the present day.
