Department of Civil Law – Research

The research of the Department, or of the academic staff of the Department, including full-time PhD students focuses on all areas and subcategories of Civil Substantive Law, Civil Procedural Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property Law as well as Executory Law and Law of Bankruptcy. The results of their scientific and research activities can be found in high-quality monographs, text-books, chapters in scientific monographs, collections of conference papers, papers in scholarly and professional journals. The academic staff of the Department attempts to ensure the students have access to relevant textbooks and sources. This in turn helps to increase the quality of the teaching process. The members of the Department have been involved in several research projects as follows:

Within the scope of their research activities, the Department of Civil Law prepares and provides opinions for the Civil Division and Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic with regards to proposals for recitals in their decisions to be published in the Collection of decisions and opinions of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic. Furthermore, it also prepares opinions for the Civil Division of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic pursuant to § 48 subs 4 of the Civil Contentious Code of Procedure.

Outstanding achievements of the members of the Department of Civil Law were also acknowledged not only by the Faculty and University academic officials but also by other institutions. Prof. JUDr. Peter Vojčík, CSc. was honoured for the publication of his work “Industrial Property Law“ published in Bratislava in 1998 with the Slovak Literary Fund Award for the year 1999. The first prize in the publication competition of the journal Bulletin of the Slovak Advocacy in 2008 in the category of “Private Law” was awarded to JUDr. Milan Sudzina for his paper “Legal aspects of Land Boundaries”. On the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, in Košice prof. JUDr. Peter Vojčík, CSc. was honoured for his scientific work with the award of the Gold Medal of the University. Apart from publishing, the members of the Department of Civil Law have also presented the results of their academic research and expertise at various conferences and symposiums in Slovakia and abroad. During the whole period of its existence, several professional and academic conferences have been convened under the auspices of the Department, for instance, the Department has been organizing the international scientific conference named “Košice Days of Private Law” since 2016.
