A team of bachelor’s and master’s students studying Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics – Economical and Mathematical modelling at the Institute of Mathematics and the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, participated in the European CASSINI Hackathon Slovakia, where they finished in 2nd place.

CASSINI Hackathon is a Europe-wide event organized by the European Commission that brings together innovators, programmers, and students from across the continent. The aim is to use satellite and space data to solve real-world problems on Earth. Participants work with data from the European space program Copernicus, which provides up-to-date information on the state of our planet.

Our students presented the OnlyFiit app, a tool that helps athletes find suitable outdoor sports facilities. The app uses satellite data to display current conditions such as temperature, air quality, noise levels, and the estimated number of people at a given location.

The project promotes a healthy lifestyle and shows that space technology has practical applications in everyday life.

Congratulations on your excellent placement and on an idea that combines mathematics, technology, and space!
