The Role of Representative Bodies in the Local Government of the City of Košice

As a part of Science and Technology Week, the Department of Public Policy and Public Administration Theory organized a discussion for doctoral students on November 14, 2025, focusing on the topic “The Role of Representative Bodies in the Local Government of the City of Košice.”

The discussion was attended by JUDr. Beáta Zemková (Head of the Municipal Office of the Košice – Ťahanovce District, Member of the Košice City Council), Ing. Lucia Iľaščíková, PhD., ING-PAED IGIP, (Head of the Municipal Office of the Košice City District – Šaca, Member of the Košice City Council), and Mgr. Peter Kasterko (Head of the Municipal Office of the Košice City District – Ťahanovce).

The discussion focused on the role of the committees of the municipal districts and the City of Košice, their actual functioning, as well as the resulting practical challenges. During the discussion, the guests answered several questions regarding local politics, relations between local government bodies, the use of live online broadcasts of council meetings, as well as current local government financing and other relevant local issues.

The visit by the invited experts from the field also included a meeting with the dean of the faculty, Assoc. Prof. JUDr. Mgr. Michal Jesenko, PhD., during which current issues and problems facing the local government of the city of Košice were discussed.
