50th Anniversary of the STROM Seminar

1minút, 22sekúnd

Fifty years ago, the KMS – Correspondence Mathematics Seminar was established at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice; it was renamed STROM in 1993. This was historically the first mathematics seminar in Czechoslovakia. In 1995, the STROM Association was founded, which took over the patronage not only of the STROM seminar but also of the Matik and Malynár seminars. All three seminars are still active today, and a number of other activities have been added.

Why STROM (in English TREE)?
In Latin, “seminarium” also means “seedbed” or “forest nursery,” and this seminar served as the environment in which a great many talented individuals in the fields of mathematics and the natural sciences emerged and flourished.

On this occasion, the STROM Association, in cooperation with the Faculty of Science of UPJŠ, is organizing commemorative events for all current and former organizers, participants, and supporters.
